Our research on Place and Health Equity examines how the physical and social environment of urban areas shapes opportunities for health and wellbeing. We investigate and evaluate risks and hazards in order to put forward practice and policy solutions designed to reduce and eliminate drivers of urban health inequities such as toxic stress, structural racism, and economic/social exclusion.
Health in all Policies is a strategy and a law requiring every city department to integrate practices, programs and partnerships focused on promoting greater health equity within Richmond. The CGHC helped co-create the strategy and engages in participatory evaluation to track progress since its adoption as an Ordinance in 2014.
This collaborative project trained community residents in surveying and other data collection. We jointly maps and surveyed the community to document the impacts and influences of the redevelopment of Elm Playlot and related projects in Richmond’s Iron Triangle neighborhood.

Alta Bates Health Impact Assessment (Berkeley, California)
Working with the City of Berkeley and other Bay Area governments, we explored the health impacts for residents of multiple East Bay communities on the potential closure of the Alta Bates hospital.
